New look eCargo website

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 by Struan Judd

You may have noticed our recently updated website. The idea was to not only give the site a bit of a refresh, whilst still maintaining the eCargo brand, but to insure we clearly communicate to our customers: What is eCargo?

New look eCargo website

The other main reason for the new design is to pave the way for new features we’ll be adding over time. The team are busily redesigning our web-based Freight Reconciliation, Export Shipping and Reporting applications to reflect the new look. More importantly, we're building the web-based version of eCargo Premium, our freight execution application.

This will enable eCargo to provide a truly comprehensive SaaS solution for manufacturers, freight providers and logistics companies.

We like the new look, tell us what you think!

CubeIQ: a competitive run-down

Friday, September 05, 2008 by Struan Judd

eCargo is the certified reseller of the CubeIQ product - software that is designed to automate and optimise the building of pallets, and loading of shipping containers for trucks and trailers. You can read more about its features here

MagicLogic has been in business since 1995, and has shown consistent growth, year in, year out. MagicLogic provides fast support, regular software updates and a dedicated, professional team:

Adaptable: the Cube-IQ grew from a simple premise: customers know what they need, and what they need is a system that works seamlessly with what they already have.

Flexible: Cube-IQ works with you, whether in a warehousing environment, intense cartonisation operations, or someone in the loading dock scratching his head over a 5,000 SKU order. In each case, your unique requirements are met by Cube-IQ’s flexible, intuitive rule set.

Scalable: Where do you see yourself in five years time? Cube-IQ grows with you. Its architecture is specifically designed to fit the bill from a single PC to a network of super-servers. No additional software is required as you grow your operations (other than the base product). The system is self-tuning, self-balancing and fast.

Easy to implement: You and your team don’t have the time to customize your existing applications to work around new applications. Cube-IQ can be setup to work with any system that can generate XML data.

The right language: Cube-IQ utilizes the industry-standard XML format for data transfer.  It also supports spreadsheet formats CSV and Excel, SQL databases and even direct API calls (which will excite the software developers).

The advantages of web-based software to your business

Monday, September 08, 2008 by Struan Judd

More and more, we are making use of the Internet as a valuable productivity and communication tool. The evolution of more complex web technologies and faster broadband has seen an (unsuprising) increase in the amount of web-based applications - both on a consumer and enterprise scale.

These applications can range in size and complexity - from simple calculators or music players embedded into a webpage, right through to highly-developed websites as a complete desktop application replacement. In the corporate world, the latter is known as "Software as a Service" (SaaS).

The immediate benefit of a web-based application is not only its portability (it can be used on any computer with a web broswer and Internet connection), but how the infrastructure and administration overheads are all but eliminated. As nothing additional needs installing from the customer end, all software, hardware, respective upgrades and data back-up are taken care of by the SaaS provider. This places minimal extra load or reliance on a customer's corporate IT team - often ideal for small businesses which may have no IT department at hand, or a large corporate adopting a best-of-breed approach.

Additionally, the web-based software allows for constant upgrades and improvements to be undertaken by the provider invisibly, without the user needing to download or install any new software - it will simply 'be there' when released.

With all our Freight Rating, Invoice Reconciliation, Shipping Schedule Management & Reporting now fully web based, eCargo is well down the road to offering a completely integrated SaaS solution. We are currently migrating our windows based dispatch application onto the web as we speak.
