The eCargo Story
eCargo began as a concept from farmer Rod Bryant, who reckoned there had to be savings from backfilling those empty trucks running around the countryside.
With Wellington based angel investor group AMR Holdings (now Movac) buying into the idea, eCargo started life surrounded by other well known successful businesses such as Trade Me, Ecentric (acquired by Intergen in Oct 2005) and AMR Consulting.
Carter Holt Harvey, one of New Zealand’s largest companies, quickly joined eCargo as a foundation customer, and also becoming a strategic investor through its venture capital arm, New Ventures.
This investment transformed the eCargo solution from a simple online marketplace for communicating freight requirements, to a complete freight management solution that can scale from a small carrier to the largest of multi-national manufacturers.
In June 2005 became a wholly-owned subsidiary of CHH.
With customers such as Sanitarium, Griffins, Foodstuffs, Owens-Illinois and Coca-Cola Amatil eCargo is a market leader in the Australasian market place for hosted freight logistics software.
